Once seen solely as weapons of war, drones are now the centerpiece behind innovative solutions that aim to elevate efficiency, safety, and humanity.

Historically, drones and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have been seen as military weapons. As early as 1849, Austrian forces used balloon carriers to deploy explosive devices. Today, we read headlines on drone strikes and the role this technology plays militarily. Throughout history, it’s undeniable that military applications for drones have received the most amount of attention and resources.

However, drones have the power to fundamentally alter our future for the better. They can improve the safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of many dull, dirty, and dangerous jobs.

Over the last several years, drone technology has evolved at an unprecedented rate and become more easily accessible to individuals and private companies. This has allowed the commercial sector to develop drones for applications other than war, such as photography, inspections, package delivery, and so much more. There are drones that can plant trees significantly faster than traditional methods, drones that serve irreplaceable roles in search and rescue missions, and drones that can deliver essential medical supplies. We are seeing more and more companies developing drone technology for good.

Building Humane Drones

We began Lucid Drone Tech from a place of humanitarian concern. We saw workers elevated well above-ground on lifts, ladders, and swing stages, trying to clean the outside of buildings. This is a dangerous job — people suffer life-altering injuries and some lose their lives. Was there a way to leverage existing technology to make this job safer?

Lucid’s 2019 cleaning drone model in action.

We set out to do just that by relocating workers to the ground and enabling them to operate our drones that would fly to great heights and clean. Over the years, we successfully proved our drones (video) could clean all types of exterior building surfaces — windows, roofs, brick, stone, etc. On our journey to develop a safe, efficient, and effective cleaning drone, we developed a valuable stack of core technology that allows us to quickly assess how else we can improve the world around us with drones. In the midst of the global pandemic, we leveraged our core technology to swiftly build a drone capable of disinfecting large facilities, like NFL Stadiums.

At Lucid our mission is to elevate efficiency, safety, and humanity by creating the world’s most productive drones. Whether it’s our cleaning drone, disinfecting drone, or future iterations of our technology, it’s time to rewrite the narrative on drones. We are committed to making the world a better place by building humane drones.
